Newsletter - Why marketing fails

Hey Reader,

I had full intentions on writing a newsletter this month with my podcasts, blogs and helpful information.

This didn’t happen because my agency has been growing fast and I have been so busy getting everyone’s work done!

It’s a good feeling to have because how many know it wasn’t always like that for me!

As I move into this next month I have one more monthly client I’m on-boarding and taking on a few for my marketing strategy coaching.

After that client starts I will expand my team as more clients come on.

I already have a team that edits podcasts, a team that does SEO, a great graphic designer etc.

But I will likely be hiring someone to take over my businesses internal tasks.

I also want to mention that as I grow I still plan on working with everyone directly and not passing you on to someone.

I found that to be important to many of my clients so keeping it as is.

That said, I got a little behind in my podcast editing but I am almost caught up!

I have sooo many exciting podcasts to get out to you that you are going to LOVE!

I have been so inspired meeting so many successful people and they aren’t out telling people how to be successful- they are doing it.


Ok we also have to have a serious discussion.

When I meet with business owners that are struggling there is only one reason for the struggle.

The sad thing is there are also two types of business owners.

Those that have failed so much trying to do things themselves that when they get the solution handed to them they get emotional, excited, relieved and also at times very solemn - as they think about the time and money they wasted.


Then there are those that haven’t failed enough yet. They still believe that there is a hack they will find.

They believe that their product or service is sooo amazing all they need to do is share it. When they are handed the answer they get angry or refuse it.

They are sure that all they need to do is post, network and just try to find the thing that works.

I had a business owner laugh as I shared this with him this week and he said, “I used to be that guy”.

We have all been that guy!

So let’s have a moment of realization. The reason nobody cares about what you sell is that you have to care about what they want more.

There is a saying, Give and it will be given to you pressed down shaken together and running over.

When we can shift our minds from wanting to be heard and seen to wanting our ideal clients and buyers to be seen - that’s where the magic is.

Look I get it.

It’s not easy when you spent 30 years investing in your knowledge, your great products, and your solutions and nobody seems to care.

But to get them to care you have to focus on them first. What problems do they have that you solve vs look at my amazing XYZ.

It breaks my heart when I see yet another business owner off to search for hacks vs building a brand.

But we all have to let the wells dry up to finally get it.

I met a man this week that told me he had put his retirement into his business and now was on welfare.

I looked at him and said , “congratulations you finally failed at it all so you get to learn what works”

He was ready for the answer. I showed him what to do to turn this around and I am SURE he is going to build the next Sur La Table.

Sometimes I think that if everyone knew what made it all work - nobody would need my help.

Anyone can post - but only 1% of marketers out there really can get anything to work.

So if you think “wow this looks easy I just learn Xyz” the time will come when you want to throw your computer out the window.

When you get there - you too are ready for what works.
